    I can’t connect to my XP based fileserver using the NSFE v1.50 (it always says “unknown username or bad password”). I used the IP address or servername, tried several combinations of uid/password leaving domain blank or using explicit name (HOMENET as replacement for WORKGROUP).
    There’s no issue connecting to that very same server using any PC around or even a WDTV device.
    Is there any way to generate troubleshooting logs for the app?
    Thanks.

  2. Editor says:

    @Pablo,

    I don’t know what could be happening.
    What do you use as server? It must be just the ip without any \ or /, just something like: 192.168.12.23

    I assume you don’t have any firewall and yout Playbook is connected to the same wifi as your XP computer.

  3. Pablo says:

    Thanks, IP address is entered as is without additional chars, and credentials are OK as other devices connect to the XP SP3 server w/o issues with same uid/password. The only departure from standards is that I renamed WORKGROUP to HOMENET but I entered it as well on account NSFE profile.
    So I assume there’s no way to generate any log from the app to troubleshoot?
    Thanks.

  4. Editor says:

    @Pablo,

    Sorry but no, there is no way to generate a log.
    Please, try adding port like:

    Ip:445
    Or
    Ip:139

    I.e:
    192.168.12.13:445

    Please, let me know any advance.

    Does netsharesfk,explorer have a file size limit? I have tried unsuccessfully to transfer a purchased video (3.6 gb) to my wd nas. It transfers smaller files well and quickly. Suggestions?
    Cheers
    Graeme

  7. Editor says:

    @Sammy,
    No debería haber ningún problema, deja usuario y contraseña en blanco.
    En host pon solo la ip del nas.

    Si creas unusuario con contraseña funciona?

  8. Editor says:

    @Graeme,
    There is no size limit, but keep into account that copying big files over wifi is veeery slow.
    I usually copy 2gb files in about 20minutes or more.

    What is your issue? What happens when you try to copy big files?

  9. Graeme says:

    The video file when viewed in the right pane of net shares shows 0 kb file size. The file is in the correct location and other file viewers show it having 3.6gb. The error message that comes up when trying to copy the file from pb to nas is “there was an error while downloading file”. I realize wifi transfers are slow but my netbook is having serious issues and doesnt want to work very often. So at this point I’m not worried if it takes a bit of time to transfer and backup video files.
    Cheers
    Graeme

    I am trying to connect to a samba share in Linux (Ubuntu). Any idea what the smb.Cnf file needs to look like to allow this app to connect. I can connect to the share with WinXP and Win7.

    Thanks in advance

  12. Editor says:

    @Don Martin,

    You should not change anything if it works fine from Win machines. I don’t have any problem connecting my samba boxes.

    Have you checked you don’t have a firewall?
    I assume your credentials are right. Have you tried setting the port? x.y.z.a:port
    It should be 139 or 445.

  13. Editor says:

    @Don Martin,

    Great!
    Thanks for sharing your solution 🙂

    Jesus, I still can’t connect to my xp server (unknown user name or bad password). I tried same credentials from other pc and devices (ie wdtv) to the same server and they connect ok.
    Is there any way you can add logs for the last operation, or a window below the connection entry to show details of what succeeds and what fails?
    Thanks a lot!

    I have connected successfully to XP shares, but I have a NAS that I cannot connect to after hours of trying every combination of IP, IP:139,IP:445, with username password and without, with domain and without, with folder spec and without. I can connect to this NAS from XP perfectly. The NAS is a U.S. Robotics USR8710.
    I might be able to make some progress, if I understood how your app expects the NAS to function, if you attempt to connect without a user name or password or folder name. I suspect my NAS does not allow connections to “/”. If your app is trying to connect to “/” that could explain my problem.
    Also– it would be useful to know if DOMAIN is ignored for simple connections.
