Any of them should work, in fact most of them should work if one of them works.
DOMAIN is ignored unless you add anything to domain. It should be left empty for home conections as you won’t have a network domain at home.
I’d start allowing annonymous connections to NAS so you can be sure it’s not an issue with user/pass. When annonymous is done and working, try with users.
I can’t get this to work with Win7. Probably how I’ve set up the shares. Granted read only access to Everyone and allowed access without username. Tried both hostname and ip.
Hi – I can access share //veal07/pictures from my laptop. I’ve tried //veal07, veal07 and veal07/pictures plus substituting ip for hostname on my PlayBook. It display smb://veal07 top left and seems to be trying to retrieve data but get message Unable to connect.
Just share any folder on your windows machine, that’s enough.
To be sure, try accesing to that shared from another computer, if it works there, it should work under NSFE.
I have never tried to file share with another device.
I tried using the Pc name,username,password.
I also tried setting using the ip address for the wireless network and the Pc ip address, with username and password and anonymous and got the same result everytime.
Please, try accessing your shared from another computer and check if it works fine. If it does not work with computers it will not work with app, but it’s easier to comfirm it is working from another computer.
When it works from computer, try from app.
Also, confirm your windowsXP machine does not have any firewall blocking access. Testing from another computer will help to debug this kind of issues.
I looked at the video for this product. In the setup panel for entering hostname, on the video it shows”home computer” wberas on my Kindle it refers to a ” compute server”. Is this the wrong version of the software?
The video demonstration is exactly what I would like to be able to do.
Don’t worry, it does not matter what the label says, the field is always the same and the functionality is the same.
I uploaded an update yesterday with a new “network scan” feature that will search on your local network for valid servers, this might help you.
Hope it’s approved tomorrow morning!
I have an encore NAS model ENNHD 1GS server with which the software version 1.22 does not connect from my PlayBook . I get the following error “Unknown username or bad password “.
It is working ok with my Windows 7 machine.
I tried various options to connect (inluding the folder name in the connection string ). I am connecting using the IP address in all attempts.
Is there a way to enable logging of each connection in order to troubleshoot the software?
This kind of issues are hard to debug, there is no log we can see.
Let’s go step by step.
Last app update comes with a “scan” feature that will scan your network for available servers. Let’s see if we have visibility.
Is your nass found by this scan button?
@john berkey,
It’s very strange. It should work in any way as that’s the protocol, but you can try something like:
a.b.c.d
a.b.c.d:139
a.b.c.d:445
a.b.c.d/folder
a.b.c.d:139/folder
a.b.c.d:445/folder
Any of them should work, in fact most of them should work if one of them works.

@Jon,
Are you able to get access form any other PC?
You should start trying with user/password and then, when working, trying without.

@Jon Veal,
Please, try with ip, just put your ip on host and use a user with password. Try this and let’s see.
What configuration settings need to be made on a windows xp Pc to behave as a server to this app running on a kindle fire.

I tried Jon’s solution, but I still get unkown user name or bad password.
@howard landsman,
Do you get access to those shares from other PC’s?
How are you seting hostname?

I do not have a second computer. I turned off Norton Internet Security and Windows Firewall with still no success.
